Longest Day Out in Taiwan

My days start crazy early in taiwan and apparently I sleep earlier too.

I went to bed at 11pm and woke up at 8am. I got ready to go have breakfast at 9 and then lunch at 12. I dont think I have ever had 3 meals in one day... well at least its been way too long to remember the last time that happened.

The breakfast was pretty awesome... i had shao long bao and dan bing ( this egg thing) with sweet soy milk. Then came lunch only 3 hours later. The lunch was at this fancy restaurant because we were celebrating my aunt and my cousin's bday. You would expect the food to be amazing because it is Taiwan.. but dont be fooled. I finally understand why the dirtier the place, the better the food tastes. These people spent so much money on creating a pretty place that was spacious that they forgot that the food needs to be good too. All the dishes were crap and I soon lost my appetite for asian food.

Luckily we went back to my favorite uncle's place to kick it before dinner time. Taiwan has redeemed itself in the food category with their cake! The cake was soooOooO pretty and as big as sun! It was topped with all sorts of fruit and layered with all kinds of goodies. We had the yummy frosting (nothing like the crap american kind), pudding, cake, this jello thing, and more cake. It was delicious and I hope to get a cake like that one of these days.. i just hope i can find one in America. Or.. I can always come back and celebrate whatever I was planning just for the cake. teehee.

oOooO we karoaked at my uncle's place and they even forced me to sing the moon song. I also learned that karoake is a good way to relearn how to read chinese. In addition to all the singing fun, I also enjoyed serious chats about jobs, China and US vs. Taiwan.

We all hot potted at a Shabu Shabu.. i had beef and pork and all the veggies along with guava, taro ice cream, tapioca, pudding and more. Although I was full, I ate and ate until I really really couldnt take anymore.

So... my first day out all day and it was wonderful despite the bad lunch. I love my relatives here and they make me feel so happy. I enjoy watching them interact and having little conversations with them. In the beginning, it didnt seem like I would get along with my cousins much more than acquaintances, but towards the end of the day, we got close. We got to know each other and enjoy each other's company. I finally feel closer to my girl cousin. Yay for family and happiness.

I do <3 Taiwan. I love mostly the people that I am here with, my family.

First Day of Taiwan

I slept at 5am and woke up on and off all day until 10:30am. I showered and all and then went straight for the computer! I couldnt wait to talk to everyone in CA again. I missed everybody. So I ended up spending way too many hours on the comp before I took a break to eat and chat with my lil cousin.

My cousin told me stories of school, bad teachers and being picked on. I also helped him with his hw. I ended up helping him more than I expected. My uncle called his english tutor place and told him that my cousin wouldnt be going in today because I was in taiwan so I could help him instead. The teacher wasnt pleased but had to consent.

Everyone went to eat dinner at around 6 and we ended up at the same restaurant they took me to when I was back in summer 2002. The food is actually not that good and it looked dirty.... but my take out today was pretty good. It was chicken and rice.

Interesting events....

Nathan wanted to call me so I told him I would find out which button was the pick up one. My lil cousin pointed at this button and that and I doubted he knew which one was for which. My uncle watched us try to figure it out and decided to be more clever about it. He called the home number, but he didnt tell me he was doing that... hence my granny and i picked up at the same time.. i didnt know what i was doing picking up the phone so i hung up and then my grandma did too.. I was worried it was Nathan but it just turned out to be my smart uncle, helping me find the right button. SooOOo it was interesting how it took 3 people to figure out the pick up button.

Next interesting thing....

I killed my first fly today using the bug zapping racket. It was pretty disgusting but I did it. I am no longer a noob. hehe

UmMMm....

I think that is all for now... haha...

Too lazy to write more...

so...

The End

TAIWANing!

I left for Taiwan on the 26th and will be vacationing until April 24th.

I went with my granny cuz she is getting old and my family felt better if someone went with her-- well and I didnt mind going to Taiwan again... its almost like a tradition. I graduate from wherever and i get to go to Taiwan. My first visit was after I graduated Preschool, then when I was done with HS. Now that I am all done with UCSD, I get to vaycay in Taiwan again... such fun..

Anywho, I barely slept on the plane and the food was super crap but the 777 is really nice.Igot my own tv screen to control. The tv's were on the chairs in front of me and they were loaded with games, music, movies and more. I could have played tetris, chess, chinese chess, mah jong, etc. My music selection consisted of Jay Chou's more recent album and some other people I didnt know. And the movies.. man... i could choose Deja Vu, The Prestige, Man of the Year, Night at the Museum, Casino Royale, The Good Year, and some foreign films. The tv thing got weird on me a couple of times but I eventually figured out how to fix it. Oh and the stewardess's werent that nice and pretty unhelpful. I guess the only good thing about EVA was the 777 plane itself and nothing else.

As for when I landed, it wasnt humid and as bad as I remembered. I got back to my grandma's place and was surprised that it was bigger than I thought. It took me awhile to get online and figure out all the weird chinese characters and keys. I had to get help multiple times....

BUT Ihave internet.. so YAY!

Meaning of Love--

I know Valentines Day is over already, but I was looking at my Social Psych book and came across a page that had "The Meaning of Love-- in the words of children." So I thought I'd share.

"Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way."

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

"Love is what makes you smile when you are tired."

"Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he looks like Robert Redford."

"Love is when you puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."

* The responses were made by a group of children, aged 4-8*

Rain Rain, Go Away

Come again another Day?

Although raining days can be a pain in the butt, I do enjoy it. Whenever it rains, I imagine myself at a Starbucks, drinking a Venti Caramel Frappacino...ok.. well, maybe not a cold drink... so lets just say -- sipping on my :insert hot drink name: while having a nice conversation with an old friend or reading a spell binding book. Either way, I see myself at a coffee shop.

Why I love coffee shops so much, I dont know...I cant pinpoint it, but if I was to speculate, I'd say:

I love the taste of coffee, and the atmosphere is conducive for "Me" time and social gatherings . I also enjoy watching people. That might sound weird, but it is actually quite fascinating to see how different people behave and interact. Everyone has a reason for being at the cafe *-- some study, others chat, families bond, or parents work on their tasks while their child reads.  I, on the other hand, go to get my beverage fix, study, chat, play games, read, think, and most importantly, escape from home.

* SO with my eyes close, and a deep breathe, I imagine myself there now*

My mood is lifting as I immerse into thoughts of coffee, friends, conversations, books, and even games of scrabble. Listening to my korean music and the sound of the raindrops falling to the ground is making me smiling already.

What will tomorrow have in store for me?

A book and starbucks? A friend and chatting? Or possibly scrabble?

Who knows... maybe I will do the next best thing on a rainy day..

SLEEP IN

I hope you guys enjoy your rainy days because they are rare. In case you havent noticed that there are more sunny days in a year than rainy ones. -- so when it rains, embrace it.

With that said... off I go to sleep because it is 6:01am. hehe.

* Cafe= Starbucks
